There comes a time in everyone’s life when they need a bit of extra cash for any number of things from a new car to a fancy wedding. “Unsecured” doesn’t sound too friendly, but it’s better than a secured loan as you can’t lose your home with an unsecured loan!

An unsecured personal loan is based on your circumstances and your ability to pay it back, so you may find it best to use a broker service that can match your needs and circumstances with the massive range of loan companies out there. Some loan companies specialise in providing loans to people with poor credit histories, and others may not lend you the amount you want because of a CCJ. There are so many loan companies about, there’s bound to be one out there to suit your needs and financial history.

As with all financial products, check the APR interest rate rather than the headline grabbing rate on the adverts. The APR is used to compare loan rates over the lifetime of the loan, and the lower the better.

Beware the advertised APR! The rate they show is the one they have to offer to 67% of the applicants, and the 67% will be the customers with the best credit histories. If your’s is lower, then you may end up with a much higher rate. Use an independent broker and they should be able to steer you in the right direction.
